We pride ourselves on being a teaching hospital! We love investing in our vet med students by providing them with the coaching, encouragement, and hands-on practice they need to succeed in their future careers as veterinarians. Since opening our first Good Dog location, we’ve trained over 50 students who have gained valuable experience in: surgery, dental procedures, diagnostic interpretation (ultrasound/radiographs), differentials, and client communication.

Roadmap to success for your 1st Year as a practicing DVM
Be valued as future DVMs, not just assistants.
Each externship focuses on critical thinking and aligns with the student’s future DVM career goals. Externs are treated as future DVMs, not assistants or technicians. Our skilled RVTs and Case Managers handle patient nursing care, while our externs partner with our DVM team to focus on doctor-specific tasks such as diagnosing, prescribing, and performing surgery.

Practical Experience
After rounds, externs will either scrub in on surgeries and procedures with their mentos or assist with case workups during appointments
Meaningful Mentorship
Externs and their mentoring doctors will develop separate treatment plans to compare, enhancing the extern’s critical thinking and diagnostic skills.
Client Interaction
Developing strong client communication is essential for successful veterinary practice, and our externship provides opportunities to build these skills through real client interactions.
